A new app called The Dog Training App aims to revitalize dog training by providing dog owners with training tools and tutorial videos conveniently located in their pockets.

Bay area`s Keithan Torrey and app co-founder decided to put his tutorial videos in an affordable app despite being advised to sell them in an online course for high fees. “I’ve always been into the latest technology and wanted to do something in the IT industry that would be both sustainable while also giving back” said Keithan.

The dog training app contains over thirty-three tutorial videos that are based on a style of training called clicker training. Clicker training is a popular positive reinforcement training methodology widely used among professional trainers and gets its name due to the use of a toy like tool that makes a clicking sound known as a clicker. The app even includes a built in clicker so users do not have to buy the device and instead can use their own phone as a clicker.

However, Keithan believes the app is much more than just a training resource. “Our little app is so much more than just a training tool” explains  the co-founder “Every year about 1.2 million abandoned dogs are euthanized in the U.S. alone. That’s over 3,000 dogs a day. To make matters worse, behavior problems were cited as the number one reason people abandoned their dog. We believe that getting vital information into the hands of dog owners in a convenient and affordable manner is the key to significantly reducing these numbers and we thought the best way would be through an app.” The Dog Training App is currently only available in the Apple app store and a release for android devices is set for later this year.
